Recently, researchers at the Center for Nutrition and Health in the US have compared the nutrient content of dark chocolate and cocoa with juices from: grapes, pomegranates, blueberries or strawberries. These are fruits with high antioxidant capacity and are loved by many people.
The results is really increadible: chocolate and cocoa contain more Flavanols and Polyphenols than the fruits are mentioned above. Flavanols and polyphenols are considered as antioxidants that have the ability to neutralize molecules that destroy cells, prevent heart disease and cancer effectively.
Dr. Debra Miller – head of the study said: βBesides being very rich in beneficial fats and proteins, cocoa powder, bitter dark chocolate (chocolate has a higher cocoa percentage than 70%), and 100% pure black chocolate are superfoods that contain higher levels of antioxidants than fruits that have always been considered to have the highest nutrient content β.
