Spanish Secrets
In 1502, Christopher Columbus brought the first cocoa beans to Europe and it quickly became one of Spain’s treasures of prosperity.
The Spaniards kept cocoa beans a secret for a very long time. In 1579, when British pirates attacked a merchant ship filled with Spanish cocoa beans; they think the precious cocoa beans are… dry sheep manure and burning the boat in frustration.
When cocoa was introduced, the Spanish people immediately fell in love with this drink. Like the Mayans and the Aztecs, the Spanish drank cocoa for health and energy. Even the Spanish church allows the use of cocoa during the masses.
